7/19/22
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),
It’s hard to believe the start of school is just around the corner. I hope you were able to have a safe and restful summer. Below are back to school updates, some changes, and important information you need to know.
Staff Return
Staff will have inservice meetings August 1st through August 3rd.
Start of classes
Grades 1 - 12 - Thursday, August 04, 2022
Pre K and K - Monday, August 15, 2022
Start and end times
This is a change from previous years. We want to foster a “one school” mentality with all students (except for PreK) starting and ending at the same time. This will allow staff to collaborate vertically across grade levels and provide consistency with key curriculum areas like math, reading, and STEAM initiatives.
K - 12 will begin classes at 8:30 and dismissal will be at 3:30
Pre K will begin classes at 8:30 - 11:30 for 3 Year Olds (Morning) and 12:30 -
3:30 for 3 Year Olds (Afternoon)
Pre K for 4 Year Olds will begin classes at 8:30 and dismissal will be at 3:30
Pre K and Child Find
We will once again offer our NM PreK program for 4 year olds (must turn 4 prior to September 1st). This program fills fast so there might already be a waiting list.
3Y, 4Y DD PreK programs are for children who have an identified need requiring IEP related services. Screenings, evaluations, and placement IEP meetings are ongoing. There is no cap on the enrollment, so if parents have concerns regarding their child’s development in areas of communication, social emotional, motor, or cognitive development they can call the Child Find/ PreK Coordinator at 505.866.7632
Transportation
In order to make the start and end times work, we will be transporting all students K-12 at the same time. Many small school districts across the state and country do this. We are providing an adult bus attendant, in addition to our bus driver, to alleviate any concerns parents might have with older kids riding with younger kids. Bus pickup locations and times will be provided at registration and will be posted on our website and FB page.
Registration
We have put much effort into streamlining our registration process since last spring. Most of you filled out information online which has helped us tremendously to make this process easier. On Tuesday 8/2/22 and Wednesday 8/3/22 we will have registration for both new and returning students at the Los Lunas Transportation Center. Details regarding times for different grade levels will also be posted on our website and FB page for your convenience.
Dress Code
Once again we will not be requiring “school uniforms” per say in order to lessen the financial burden on families from having to purchase clothes with logos. However, we will continue to have a well defined code of dress which will also be made available at registration, posted on our website and FB page.
Classroom and Office Moves
To better address our growing enrollment needs we have had to move some of our classrooms, office spaces and services. Anyone at school will be able to assist you in finding the class or office you need when you come onto our campus.
Closed Campus
School of Dreams Academy is a closed campus. Students must be signed out by a parent or guardian whenever they leave early. High School students who leave campus early or arrive late due to work or college schedules must sign in and out at the secondary office.
STEM Lab
We are excited to offer a new STEM / Research lab that is currently being built out. This lab, staffed by Mrs. Nilvo, will provide age appropriate STEM and research opportunities for all grade levels throughout the school year
Along these lines, we will be bringing back a school-wide science fair. We will notify you with details once school starts.
Student Attendance
Students are expected to attend classes on campus this year. Students may have certain medical needs that warrant time off campus but those needs must be outlined by a doctor. All students must come to the campus for any state testing and reasonable accommodations will be made to ensure the safety and health of those students.
Career Technical Education (CTE)
This past year we have worked hard to build out CTE clusters and course offerings. This year we will begin by offering Agriculture, Computer Graphics, Robotics, Intro to Construction, Career Explorations, Film and Videotape, and several others.
RAPTOR SECURITY SYSTEM
We are in the process of implementing the Raptor Emergency Management and Security systems on our campus. This system will help us detect potentially harmful persons and remove them from campus, assist in the process of accountability during campus drills or emergencies, assist emergency responders, and ensure that students are only picked up by approved family members.
How does this directly affect you? When visiting campus you will be asked to scan a state issued ph
