School of Dreams Academy’s Child Find
Child Find is a part of the individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities ages three to 21 who are in need of special education services.
School of Dreams Academy conducts screening and evaluations of preschool-aged children who are suspected of having developmental delays or disabilities in one or more of the following areas:
Communication Skills
Cognitive Skills
Motor Skills
Daily Living Skills
Social/Emotional Skills
Vision
Hearing
Orthopedic Needs
Who should be screened?
Children who:
Have parents/guardians with concerns about their development (concerns about child speaking, understanding of language, learning, eye-hand coordination, movement, socialization, hearing, vision, or other reasons).
Are 3 years old, but still younger than kindergarten age (5 years old before Sept. 1st.)
Are residents of Valencia County.
What will happen at the screening?
Screening takes about 45 minutes. The screener(s) will play with your child using
developmental screening tools.
You will be asked questions about things your child may do at home or in childcare.
Children will have their vision and hearing checked.
What will happen after the screening?
The screener and parent will talk about the outcome of the screening and any next steps to take. This may include further evaluation(s) or referrals to other community services.
How does a screening get scheduled?
Please call the School of Dreams Academy’s Child find office at (505) 866-7632 or email teresao@sodacharter.com to get the process started.
All screenings, evaluations, and services are at no cost and occur every Thursday from 8:30 to 12:00.

Welcome students and families to the 2023-2024 school year! We are looking forward to a great school year. As we begin the school year, we would like to update you on the New Mexico Attendance for Success Act. The NM Attendance for Success Act replaced the Compulsory School Attendance Law in 2019. Please see the details below:
What is an absence?
Excused Absence: A class/school day absence for medical, death, religious or tribal obligations as discussed in local school board policy. Medical Absence: Doctor-authorized absence for medical reason. Unexcused Absence: Absence from class/school day for which student does not have an excuse under AfSA or local school board policy. Attendance at a school-sponsored event is NOT an absence.
Tiered Intervention Approach
Tier 1: Whole school prevention: Universal, whole-school strategies for students who have missed less than 5% of classes/days for any reason
Tier 2: Individualized Prevention: Targeted strategies for students who have missed 5% but less than 10% classes/days for any reason
Tier 3: Early Intervention: Interventions for students missing 10% but less than 20% classes/days for any reason
Tier 4: Intensive Support: Interventions for students missing 20% or more classes/days for any reason.
The Attendance for Success Act is designed to combat chronic and excessive absenteeism by establishing whole school prevention strategies, enacting early warning systems, implementing tiered interventions and engaging support services designed to keep our kids in school so they may succeed. Please do not be alarmed if you receive a phone call from our attendance team. We are required by the state to make contact with you if your student misses more than 5% of the school year. The link below will take you to the New Mexico Attendance for Success Act for further details and explanation.
